AVF HM900 Headset Review

Bought a AVF Stereo Headset at Sibu PC Fair over the weekend. My Logitech headphone which I bought about a year ago broke down because of wiring problem at volume control area.

So this time, no more Logitech! Anyway, not many Logitech headphones were displayed this time at PC Fair. Whereas, there were 2 stalls selling AVF headphones which caught my eyes especially this model HM900.

It is a big headphone. What actually caught my attention was the "Powerful Bass" sticker on top of the packaging. Among the headphones displayed, this is the only model with the eyes-catching big red sticker.

The price was also acceptable and affordable. With such a tough appearance, it only cost at RM45! Furthermore, I have a small size AVF earphone which I bought quite some times ago but still in good condition. That's why I have some confidence towards AVF products and that's the reason why I made the choice this time.

Among the specification of HM900 are:

• Microphone: 6 x 5/58 ± 2 dB.
  
• Impedance: 32 ohm at 1kHz.
• Sensitivity: 105dB/mW.
• Frequency Response: 20 - 20,000Hz.
  
• Cord Length: Approx. 4 - 5m.
• Weight: Approx. 220g(without cord).
• Adjustable cell cover.
  
• Microphone on/off switch is included.
  
• Volume control is included.
• Hanged type built-in microphone.
  

Who really care what those specs mean? As long as the headphone can produce good sound, that is! After I tried it out, it is really not bad. Sound quality is good, clear and very focus as it covered the entire ears. The bass is good as well, I mean if compare to other earphones I used before, this one certainly have the best bass quality.

What a little bit disappointed me is the microphone is hanged type built-in microphone but not the bendable microphone stick. Actually seldom use the mic but just feel this one is a bit too simple and not that ergonomic. It is more like the mic on mobile phone's headset.

What I felt more special and unique on its design is the head support which is using rubber band as the expandable medium rather than the traditional extendable head support mechanism.


Not really use it yet, but I will rate it 6 out of 10.

3rd Royal Ranger Regiment Exhibition @ Sibu Time Square (Part 2)

This is the continuity from Part 1 3RRD exhibition held at Sibu Town Square last Friday.

Besides the surviving skills and food supplies used by the rangers while in the jungle, there was also a so called mobile communication center being setup near the exhibition venue. This kind of communication center was used by the armies in war zone.

The mobile center was basically formed from a big truck at the center and the camp was extended to the left and right of the truck. The truck was properly covered to hide it from the enemies.

If you walk into the camp, on the left is a space to be used as an office or command center.

On the right, it was another room for the soldier activities such as meeting and strategy planning and so on.

Whereas at the center of the camp, the truck was used as the core communication center.

I climbed onto the truck using the old wooden ladder to see what was in there. Nothing much actually, just some radio communication devices used by the soldiers to communicate with the outside world when they are at the center of the war zone.

The most interesting part of this exhibition which also attracted most people was the display of 2 IFVs, Infantry Fighting Vehicles. The visitors never wanted to miss the chance to climb into these vehicles and had an experience to be inside and operate the vehicles which at normal days they almost impossible to have such chance.

Small kids especially were the most excited group to see these kind of vehicles which in normal days they may only see it in the tv. The treated the vehicles as playground by climbing in and out from them.

This is a Sibmas AFSV 90MM 6x6 armored personnel carrier (APC) and fire support vehicle made in Belgium. The main weapon is the 90mm Cockerill.

I succesfully climbed onto this vehicle and saw the inside. The space was very limited. You just have to squat down while moving inside the vehicle.


I wished to climb higher, but with my slacks and working beg on me, it was really hard to move around. So, I just gave up.

The design inside was simple yet complicated with devices everywhere.


This one is called RPZ Condor Twin GPMG (Genreal Purpose Machine Gun). It was an APC equipped with machine guns and explosive launchers.

There was a section in the exhibition shows the artifats seized from communists especially PKKU (Parti Komunis Kalimantan Utara) in 1970s.


These include some of their clothes, shoes, own made explosive and also machine guns and rifles.

Besides military exhibition, Firefighters and Rescue department also took part in this event. Some rescue demonstration was shown to the public.

Photo below shows some of the tools used in marine rescue works.

3 rescue Honda superbikes used by the Rapid Intervention Motorcycle(RIM) Unit also being displayed to the public.

These motorbikes were equipped with all the necessary tools used in emergency rescue such as road accident.

It was a very nice exhibition but what disappointed me was the modern weapons such as various kind of guns where not shown to the public. Furthermore, it was held on weekdays, Thursday and Friday so I guess a lot of people might miss the chance to visit the exhibition.

1st Anniversary...

Is 8th of August (08/08) brings any meaning to you?

If you still remember, one year ago on the same day, Beijing had became the first Asia nation in the history to host Olympics game, one of the most prestige sports event on the globe! So it is the anniversary celebration for China people for their excellent job!

For me, 08/08 brings more meaning than just about Beijing Olympics. Exactly on the same day one year ago, I chose to register this blog and started my blogging life. There was no special intention why I chose to write blog. I just tried to follow the trend in cyber world and at the same time, hope that I could improve my English writing skill by practicing. There is a saying "Practice Makes Perfect". It is quite true and I wished it would work for me as well.

Honestly, I had a very bad writing skill. My poor English command had further made my writing become more difficult and I had to spend more time than others when I wrote an article in my blog. That's why, over the past one year, I spent more time in blogging rather than playing games which is quite unusual for me.

I you ask me if my English writing skill had improved after one year's effort? Well... I don't feel so. My vocabulary is still very weak. I still need to think twice and long before I can convert my thoughts to proper English sentences.

Yet, I won't give up and will keep blogging. I still believe in practice will make perfect. Recently you may feel the reduction in my posts because after one year, I slowly out of new and fresh topics to share about. Anyway, I promised that I will try my best to update my blog if there is any interesting happening in my life. For those who have trust on me... please stay tune!

3rd Royal Ranger Regiment Exhibition @ Sibu Time Square (Part 1)

In conjunction with the 44th anniversary celebration of 3rd Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment a.k.a. 3 RRD (Rejimen Renjer Diraja Batalion ke-3), an exhibition had been held at Sibu Time Square compound from 6th-7th August 2009.

I just happened to visit to the exhibition after office hour today just to take a look on what's the situation over there. Honestly, I am quite interested in this army's stuffs especially about their weapons and different kind of equipment they used in combat.

The thing that excited me when I reached there was the properly "decorated" camps. Yes! It gave me the feel of the camp in the middle of war zone!

This camp is called "Survival 3RRD". Why so? Well, in this camp, various methods of surviving skills of the rangers in jungle were displayed to the public.

These were the model of houses or shelters that rangers build when they were inside the jungle.

These were the model of traps that constructed by rangers to protect themselves from wild life that may threaten their life in the jungle. According to one soldier who patiently explained the mechanism of these traps to me, traps can be divided to life or death traps. These traps cannot be simply build inside the jungle unless it is necessary. However, when the trap is unused, it must be removed so that it won't hurt anybody who may walk pass the area.

Rangers also have the skill to use natural material such as bamboo and cane to create bowls or cups. This is part of their surviving skill when they live in the jungle.

The thing that impressed me the most in this camp were the wild animals which I never saw in such a close distance before.

First, it was the "musang" or in English it should be called civet? The ranger told me this animal was hardly found because human was hunting them for its medical value.

Then there was a snake in another cage.

An owl! She was so pretty! This was the first time I saw a real owl!

There was also a baby bear which only 4 months old! The innocent eyes and its cutiness really touched my heart! One of the ranger dare to put his finger into his mouth. He said it was not hurt as the teeth haven't properly grown yet.

At another camp, it showed the food suppliment brought by the rangers into the jungle and how they cooked them.



This is a package of dried foods that brought by the rangers into the jungle. According to a soldier, a package is for 2 days supply.

The package includes matches, rice, sugar, Vitamin B and C pills, instant coffee, instant milk powder, tea bags, pineapple jam, some biscuits and also packet foods.

Few visitors and me were quite curious about the packet food. Some even asked if they can buy the packet foods from the stall. I think our curiosity brought some attention to the soldiers on duty. One of them was kind enough to open one packet to let us had a try of the food. Can you guest what is inside?

It was actually curry chicken! Yes! It can be eaten instantly without cook just like tin foods! Its taste? Well... just taste like curry chicken in can. It was quite tasty and nice enough to eat with white rice.


The soldier also opened the biscuit for us to try with pineapple jam but I didn't try that.

Before I left the stall, I shook hand and express my gratitude to the soldiers on duty who really show their friendliness to us.
