Mini Burger In Town

I just realized that there are actually mini burger on sale in town!

Just now, I went out to yamcha (having tea time) with 2 friends of mine. Initially we went to a cafe near Esplanade Park which we being there for few times. We like the balcony seats at that cafe as it provides more open space and natural air which is a good environment for chit-chatting. However, we discovered that the upper stair of balcony seats was closed due to a private occasion. So we got no choice but to leave the place and look for another alternative.

So we decided to go to another cafe named "cafe cafe" which provides more high class environment and more expensive foods as one of my friend said he never being there before. We were unlucky tonight! The cafe was not opened.

With a bit upset feeling, we went around the town area tried hard to think where else we could go to take a sit, order some drinks and foods then have a nice chit-chatting session. We ended up with a fast food restaurant which open for 24 hours.

It had been quite some times I didn't being to this fast food restaurant. So after some thought, I decided to go for a "Real Savers" set meal which consists of an Original Recipe Fillet Burger and regular size cheezy wedges.

I got a shock in my life when the cashier took a burger wrapped in white paper with the restaurant name printed on it and put it on the tray just beside a boxed Zinger burger ordered by my friend. It was relatively mini in size! At that moment i was wondering if that's the burger i had ordered... obviously it was, I just tried not to believe my eyes.

So, we took the foods, looking for a strategic place to sit. Once sitting down, I couldn't wait to take out the burger from its wrapper. One more time, i got a shock in my life! The burger really was so small and mini! It's just slightly bigger than the very famous chinese kompia in Sibu! Can't believe it? You better do...

You can see the photo below which show how "mini" the burger is relative to a 50-cent coin and a standard size magnetic stripe card. Gosh! I can't believe my eyes! I still remember the last time I had a burger in this restaurant, the burger was big, and if not too big, at least it's around the standard size of a burger which is about at least twice the size than the current one!

[Burger and a 50 cents coin]

[Mini Burger size in relative to a Real Reward Card]

Am I outdated or what? Is it a new trend to have "mini" stuffs? Not only me, the two friends of mine also had a shock! The friend who ordered Zinger burger claimed that his burger is not as huge as before although the size is about double of my one.

The other friend who had Colonel burger took out his burger from red wrapper and compared with mine. It was the same size as both burger were using the same kind of bread. When he put the burger on his hand... you can see, it's just about the same size as his palm! How big a palm for average Asian can be?

Maybe I cannot point all the fault to the restaurant. I should realize how many times the chicken price had increased since last I had a chicken burger in this restaurant. So to maintain the burger price at its competitive level and attractive enough for the customers, they have no choice but to shrink down the burger size in order to cut down costs.

I have a suggestion! I would suggest if the restaurant wanted to cut costs, why not they use a smaller wrapper? The current wrapper can at least wrap 3 "mini" burgers in there! So if you save the costs in producing or purchasing the wrapper, you can use that to make a bigger burger which is more presentable at least!

[Don't you feel the wrapper is a bit too big for a mini burger?]

Oh ya, the "regular size cheezy wedges" is actually consists of 2 and a half slices of potatoes.

Anyway, one thing the restaurant still maintain its standard, is that the chicken used in the burger was really a chicken breast meat rather than a patty of ground meat. I would like to praise on this. But the bread quality is really a bad one!

So when is your turn to try out the mini burger in town?

Fish Spa

I am not sure how many of you heard about this new trend - the fish spa. Personally, I never heard about that till about a week ago one of my friend told me about it. I was joking at him when he mentioned about it. I asked if they are using piranha fish? Then he answered me, if those are piranha, then your leg will leave nothing but the white bones.

Then last few days I received a forwarded mail from another friend about this fish spa about there were some people complaining about this fish spa treatment. Actually this fish spa is all about removing death skin from our feet using the fish bite. However, according to the mail, there were people complained that not only the dead skin being removed after the treatment but also the good skin. There were also discussion about the hygienics issue of this treatment as a lot of people are sharing a same pool.

Today, I saw this treatment with my own eyes in one of the shopping complex in Sibu. When I walked into that shopping complex, a pool and some crowds around it attracted my attention. So, I took a closer look and discovered it was the fish spa people are talking about recently.

From the banner, I just realized that removing death skin is not the fish spa is all about! It stated that this treatment can improve blood circulation, give healthier skin and also have reflexology effect, but how true is this? I am not sure...

[A pool of fish where your feet will have to put in when receiving the treatment]

[The fishes are biting the feet]

For me, I more thinking it as a commercial chance to target human curiosities. On its effectiveness, I think it's much depend on individual. Regular customers will feel it is effective on them while average people are more curious and still observing about this new treatment approach. That's why I can see most of the crowds were "gossiping" around the pool or even asked the person taking the treatment how he/she feels than paying the money to have a try!

Zuiho Daiko Japan in Sibu

Yes, I just came back from watching the performance. Zuiho Daiko from Japan organized by Sibu Agape Center. It's a Japanese drum performance by a group of Japanese came all the way from Nagasaki, Japan. The unique part about this "Zuiho Daiko" is that it's performed by a group of mentally disabled persons!

From what I saw, it's hard to believe that the performers are mentally disabled persons! The whole show is really great and tremendous! They performed with full energetic and even better than some of the normal person! Trust me! You can see them used up all their energy to beat the drum hard and loud with full performing spirit. That's why you can see them sweating and had deep breath after each session of the performance.

The drum sound not only shake the ground, but also shake the heart of every audience attending the show. They applauded and cheered for the performers on stage at the end of each session, and I can assure you that it's a symbol of a great show. Otherwise, Sibu people were too "shy" to clap and cheer.

[The crowd]

I am very envy and admire their living spirit. Although they are having disability since they were born, but they never give up of their life. In fact, they changed their life into something meaningful and colorful which gained respect from the society and changed people perception towards them. I can see they really enjoyed their life. Perhaps... we should learn from them how to love our life...

History Making First Ever F1 Night Race!

As a Formula One fan, I am very excited toward this. Singapore, our neighbor country is organizing their first ever F1 racing officially starting today!

The most exciting part is not about Singaporean organizing this world class sports event, but it's about the first and the only night race in F1 history! Can you imagine before these we were watching formula one race in a bright and clear environment, and in this SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, it's totally a contrast! With the dark surrounding, the spectators and the drivers will be more focus on the race track brighten by hundreds of street lights and spot lights. This will make the whole race become more exciting and watchable!

I think this is really a brand new experience not only for the drivers and their team but also for the F1 fans. No wonder some of the drivers can't wait for this race as they wanted to try out the new challenge in their racing career. For the fans, the final result of the race will be unpredictable as their favorite drivers are trying to get use to this new driving experience thus may affected their concentration and speed.

As for me which can't go to Singapore to watch the live show, I'll pay my attention to the tv live broadcast if there is any. Besides that, Internet will be my premier source to get the information about the entire race. No matter I can watch it live through tv or not, I am waiting for the race day with full excitement. Let us see who will be the the first ever F1 Grand Prix winner in the first ever night race in the formula one history!

Fuel Price Drop Again!

Good news! I think by now most of you knew already starting this midnight (25th September 2008 12.00am) , our fuel price will be decreased further by 10 cents per liter.

Fuel CategoryOld Price(RM)New Price(RM)Drop(RM)
RON97 Petrol2.552.450.10
RON92 Petrol2.402.300.10
Diesel2.502.400.10
[Fuel price effective on 25th September 2008]

That was really a good news from our "caring" government. Don't you feel our government are very caring? They knew we are living in hell after the fuel price hike by 40% in June this year, so now they slowly decrease the price hoping our life can back to normal. I should really "appreciate" for having the "caring" government.

Errr... may I ask you a question fellow government? Can you please ask the Kampua uncles and aunties also decrease their Kampua price by 10 cents because now fuel price is decreasing? Can you also ask the chicken/mixed rice taukeh to lower their food's price by at least 20 cents because when you announced the fuel price hike they added 50 cents to the bill we pay?

Oh ya, don't forget the taxi drivers who increased their taxi fares by unreasonable ringgits when you told them the petrol price increased from RM1.92 to RM2.70. Can you ask them to lower their fare by few ringgits because the petrol price had been dropped by 25 cents since August 2008?

Not only these, every aspect of our life, our necessities, our foods which having price increase as the consequences after you announce the "wonderful" fuel price hike policy in June, can you also ask all of them to lower their price?? Please?? I beg you... Please...

Oh no.... I think that'll be even bigger challenge than announcing fuel price drop, don't you feel so? It's more to some kind of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE!!

Looks like our hard life won't change much after this midnight when the fuel drop by 10 cent per liter, do we?

I.S.A.

If I ask a question: What is I.S.A.? A lot of people will not hesitate to tell me it's the act or law used against Miss Teresa and Mr Pete recently. It's also an act to protect the civilians whose life have been threaten especially the reporters.

So fellow reporters, now you can do your job without any worry, there is an act to protect your professionalism.

What is ISA in full? Isabella? Industrial Standard Architecture? Internal Security Act? International Standard Atmosphere? Err.. I didn't see any of these words in the newspaper I read this morning. What I saw is "Ikut Suka Aku".

Ikut Suka Aku? Ok ok... let me show you some scenarios how this I.S.A. is used.

+++++++++

Scenario 1:
As usual, Mr Pete was having dinner with his family. Suddenly, his house was ambushed by the police. The whole family was caught of surprise. Mr Pete was handcuffed then he asked one of the police, Inspector Hamid. "Why you arrest me?" Insp. Hamid told him "ikut suka aku" la... Mr Pete was confused. He don't know what he had done wrong but he had been arrested in surprise just because "ikut suka aku"... he can do nothing about it.

Scenario 2:
Miss Teresa was driving home to celebrate Lantern Festival with the family. On her way home, her car was blocked by few police cars. She was not sure what happened but the police kept asking her to step down from the car, then brought her to the police station. On the way to the police station, Miss Teresa asked one of the police in the police car, Insp. Hamid with her panic look, "ma ta Hamid.. apa lu tiba-tiba bawak gua makan angin? Gua takla masa o, mau balik makan biskut bulan dengan mama gua"! Insp Hamid responded to her with his serious look, "Ikut Suka Aku"! Miss Teresa can do nothing but to follow Insp Hamid to the police station.

Scenario 3:
A reporter suddenly caught by police. She was helpless. So, she asked the police on duty, Insp Hamid why she was caught in sudden? Insp Hamid, as usual with his serious look replied, "Ikut Suka Aku la! I want to treat you coffee and protect you, cannot ar?" The reporter eyes were wet with tears because she suddenly feel the world treated her so nicely!

So by now you understand how this I.S.A is used?

My Slowly Recovered Ankle

This is the 3rd day my ankle was wrapped in the bandage. According to the "sifu", I can remove the bandage after 3 days. So this is the time!

I felt a bit excited because a wrapped ankle was really troublesome especially when taking bath. I have to cover the leg with few layers of plastic bag and hang my left leg high in order to avoid the bandage getting wet. Hard to imagine? Nevermind... just forget about it. ;)

The wrapped skin became itchy after hided under the bandage without expose to the air. I think the herb under the cotton also caused itchiness to the skin. That's why I wished to take them off faster so that I can apply my "claw" onto the itchy part.

The bandage become a bit dirty after 3 days. Imagine.. it's white and clean bandage initially. Then, over the the 3 days it had direct contact with the polluted air, the floors and also my shoe and slippers. It's too hard to keep it white and clean and also tidy after so much of contact.

[Can you see the bandage become a bit disordered and dirty? I can do nothing about it..]

My mum helped me to remove the bandage while I was busy snapping the photo. ;p She was also the one wrapped my leg with plastic bags everytime I wanted to take bath. 6 times in total. Thanks mum!

So this is my ankle after the bandage with the cotton covered with herbs was fully removed from it. There were still some cotton sticked on the leg, but it's not a big deal. It can simply be washed away.

The most important thing is, I could feel my ankle getting better. The swelled ankle became smaller. The pain was also reduced. Although it's not 100%, but at least 80% recovered. Looks like the treatment can be considered effective. Tomorrow I can get back to my badminton game again!! Badminton, here I come!!

Oh ya, the leg is really itchy!! I kept clawing on it! Now it is a bit better as I applied a chinese mentholated oil onto it that reduced the itchiness.

Swan City

The phrase "Swan City" is very familiar for the people of Sibu, but maybe a lot of outsiders still doesn't know about this. Sibu, the 3rd division in Sarawak, Malaysia is also called the Swan City.

Why is it called so? Honestly, I also not very sure but if I am not mistaken, it has something to do with the local politician who is trying the re-brand and repackage this town for tourism. It definitely doesn't mean that Sibu has a lot of swans.

As it's named the Swan City, therefore you can see a lot of swan sculptures around the town center. Just like Kuching where you can see a lot of cat statues around the city center.

Here are some swan sculptures sceneries taken by me.

My Swelled Ankle

I had a swelled ankle for more than 2 weeks now. I am not sure what happened, probably my weight is too heavy for my ankle ;p or maybe because it got twisted when I played badminton.

My mum helped me to massage the ankle once and from then on, it swelled and couldn't recover. Therefore I made up my mind to get a treatment for the swelled ankle as I don't want it to get more serious and harder to recover later. The later you get the treatment, the harder it would recover. So better act earlier so that I can get back to my badminton game as soon as possible.

I had been introduced to this "sifu" who are good in fixing and healing twisted and dislocation of body parts by my uncle. He's a taxi driver, but driving taxi became his "part time" job as a lot of people seeking for his treatment. Today when I met him, I was the 3rd person of the day who seek for his treatment already.

He first checked on my swelled ankle. After few pressing, he told me that it's not a big deal, just my ankle was twisted.

[Checking on the swelled ankle]

So he prepared to apply traditional medicine onto the ankle. I could see he got a bottle of golden liquid which is actually some mixture of alcohol and specific oil. He then poured the liquid onto a a long piece of cotton.
[Pour the liquid onto a piece of cotton]

After that, he took out a bottle of special made herb mixture. Only he knew what are actually the ingredients in it. He poured the dried herb mixture onto the cotton containing the liquid.

Then, he poured some more oil onto the herb before folded the long piece of cotton into half. The main purpose for this is avoid the herb mixture to leak out or directly touch our skin.

Afterward, he applied the cotton with herb in it onto my ankle.
Then he used a roll of bandage to cover the herb-filled cotton. I felt the cold on my ankle when the cotton was first applied onto my skin. But the "sifu" warned me it'll get hot later.

Finally, the sifu used a plaster to fix the bandage so that it wouldn't take off. At this moment, I could really feel the heat on the skin where the medicine was applied and it get hotter.

So, this is how my left ankle looks like now. I can only open the bandage after 3 days. So the coming few days I have to wear slipper to work.
The hardest part is when taking bath as I must keep the bandage dry. So, this is what I did, cover the leg with plastic bag... and trust me.. it's really troublesome!!
Oh ya, about the charge of the treatment service, it's RM30.

How dare you use ISA??!!!

Come on!!! Are you kidding me? Somebody made such heavy racism remarks but he can escape from ISA detention but what Raja Petra had done that deserved him for this? Ridiculous!!

Don't tell us you are not exercising double standard! You are just like blindfolding to lie hoping we cannot see you!!? Hey, brethe!! You are the one blindfolded not us! We still have eyes to see you are practicing very double standard!

Please don't do thing in coward way! If you want people to respect you, don't become a devil that wear angel's skin. Devil has two sharp horns and a sharp tail, so you can never hide them under the angel skin!

We are hoping for a better Malaysia, not a better devil!

New World of Physics is Emerging

How many of you know what LHC (Large Hadron Collider) is? I also don't know what the hack it is, in fact I never realize there is such term exists in this high tech era until I found out this special google logo today.

Initially I am not sure what was that mean, but it caught my eyes. I know there must be something big going on otherwise Google won't use it to embed into its logo. So, I tried to
put my mouse over the logo and I got this tooltip: "Large Hadron Collider (LHC)".

That term caught my attention as I never see such phrase before. What is it all about? I think this is a good question to ask Google. So I googled it and I got this piece of information from http://public.web.cern.ch/public/en/LHC/LHC-en.html which I will attach at the bottom of my writing.

I chose a more untechnical article to be attached here as I am not really good in science of physics. I feared of Physics subject in my school year as I couldn't cope with it. But after I left the school, I just realized that our daily life activities can't be seperated from the theory of physics. Every movement of us, any action we took the physics thoery will apply. Furthermore with the influence of my buddy, Chun who is really interested and good in this knowledge, so my interest towards this field is increasing.

I think this LHC will be a very interesting topic to be paid attention to for those physics lovers. I hope my physics-lover buddy will read about it then explain to me what is it all about, well maybe not in detail but at least roughly so that I can know the concept of LHC. Don't scold me for my laziness, I am not. Just now I read through some of the writing about LHC, but I can't understand because for me, they are too technical and out of my understanding.

[Courtesy of http://news.bbc.co.uk/ showing an engineer leans on a magnet in the 27km-long tunnel that will house the Large Hadron Collider]

Here are the piece of more untechnical information that I meant just now. From there at least I knew LHC is a huge practical experiment going on right now which may change human's understanding towards the theory of particle physics. It is a very important happening for mankind that's why it worths to be paid attention to.

******************************************************************************
(taken from http://public.web.cern.ch/public/en/LHC/LHC-en.html)

Our understanding of the Universe is about to change...

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100 m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles – the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionise our understanding, from the minuscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe.

Two beams of subatomic particles called 'hadrons' – either protons or lead ions – will travel in opposite directions inside the circular accelerator, gaining energy with every lap. Physicists will use the LHC to recreate the conditions just after the Big Bang, by colliding the two beams head-on at very high energy. Teams of physicists from around the world will analyse the particles created in the collisions using special detectors in a number of experiments dedicated to the LHC.

There are many theories as to what will result from these collisions, but what's for sure is that a brave new world of physics will emerge from the new accelerator, as knowledge in particle physics goes on to describe the workings of the Universe. For decades, the Standard Model of particle physics has served physicists well as a means of understanding the fundamental laws of Nature, but it does not tell the whole story. Only experimental data using the higher energies reached by the LHC can push knowledge forward, challenging those who seek confirmation of established knowledge, and those who dare to dream beyond the paradigm.

Evolution of Thought (Part 1)

It was back in year 1991. When I just entered secondary school. That was the first time I knew about him, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI). He was still the Education Minister that time.

I was from a chinese medium primary school and I scored straight As in my Primary 6 UPSR examination (honestly, it's not to show off ok?). According to the education policy at that time, those scored straight As in UPSR from Chinese medium schools were allowed to entered Form 1 directly without going through additional year of transition class.

So I joined Form 1 class when I first entered secondary school. Just few days after I started my Form 1 school life, DSAI came out with a new policy. Those scored straight As from chinese medium couldn't enter Form 1 directly. They had to go through a special exam and only those passed were allowed to continue Form 1 or else had to go back to Transition class.

The exam was too tough for most of the Chinese including me. Only 2 out of more than 10 in my town passed the exam. So, I couldn't continue Form 1. I was kicked back to Transition thanks to the new policy introduced by DSAI. I hated him from then on. Why before my year straight As could do Form 1 but not me? That was a stupid policy! I hate Anwar!!

Time past... I was doing my secondary school from Transition to Form 6. At that period of time, I knew nothing about politics. In fact, I had no interest at all on politics! I used to skip news about politics when I read newspaper. But my impression towards Anwar never changed. I hated him for introducing the stupid policy that disqualified me to study Form 1 directly.

Furthermore, that so called stupid policy only being used for one term. The juniors after my year were using another set of policy introduced by the new education minister. That made me hate him deeper for treating my year so "special".

DSAI became the 7th Deputy Prime Minister in 1993. I didn't actually care about that because I never like him. Yet, I still need to know the fact that he was the DPM of Malaysia. In the period he became DPM, I heard some rumors saying that DSAI was once a racial extremist when he was young. That worsen my impression towards him.

Sedition Act and ISA Where Are You?

I think I get confused again... this time is not about "miseducation", but I can't find neither ISA nor Sedition Act when we are in need. Where are they hided? Can somebody please tell me?

Both of them are among the oldest law in the country. ISA or Internal Security Act was actually introduced in 1948 by the British as a preventive detention against Malayan Communist Party. 12 years after that in 1960, the Malayan government passed the act under Malaysian Constitution to allow detention without charge or trial whoever that allegedly prejudices or threaten the security of the country and the detention is at the discretion of Home Minister.

Whereas Sedition Act was also introduced by the British in 1948. Under this act, anyone who does or attempt to do an act with seditious tendency, such as uttering seditious words, or printing, publishing or importing seditious literature will be found guilty under the act.

AH! I don't care what is the definition of these acts as I am not a lawyer. In fact, it's too technical for me to understand the acts in detail. But what I am sure and I had being taught is that these 2 acts are mainly to detain and take action against those individual who did something which can threaten the country's security, or caused tension among the various races in the country which will lead to riots and unpeaceful to the country.

Recently... we heard so much about this Ahmad Ismail as he's the one who pointed the Chinese in Malaysia are only the squatters of this Malay land. Although he refused to admit he said so, instead accused a Sin Chew Jit Poh reporter for misquoted his speech, but I am confused... yes confused again... if it's like what he claimed, why his boss and deputy boss asked him to apologize to all the Malaysian for this matter? Bear in mind that both of his bosses were at the scene while he made such remark! So, is he trying to mean that his bosses didn't pay attention when he was doing the speech? If not, why he was asked to apologize by both of his bosses on something that he didn't do?

Okla.. we just assume... assume only ok? we assume the reporter really misquoted his speech. Maybe at that time the environment was too crowded and noisy, so the reporter misquoted him and also both his bosses mis-listening (I discovered that I like to use the word "mis" ;p )... again.. this is just an assumption ok? But let see some of his remarks in the previous press conferences.
  • warned Chinese Malaysians not to mimic American Jews who not only seek to control the country's economy but also its political power
  • for the sake of my Malay dignity, I resolve not to apologise no matter what others may say
  • Remember! The patience of Malays and Muslims has its limits. Do not push us to the wall, where we will be forced to reject the Chinese for the sake of our survival
Ok now, can someone tell me if the statements above seditious?? Will these kind of statements cause tension among the various races and religious in the country? Can these remarks destroy the harmony of the country that we tried so hard to maintain all these years?

The answers to the above question are too obvious!! Just a simple YES!! This is just common sense! We don't even need a lawyer to tell us the above statements are seditious, can cause tense to the religious and races relationship among Malaysian then may destroy the peacefulness and harmony of the country!

So what act the government normally used to stop these kind of extremists who may threaten the country's security? Of course ISA or Sedition Act!! If not? What are these acts especially ISA for? They were even older than Malaysia!

Therefore, there must be some reasons of their long existence. If not to maintain country's peacefulness and stability, don't tell me it's to detain those are against government's wills? I was not educated in that way...

Honestly, I am not a big fan of ISA neither Sedition Act but since before this government had used them to "take care" of those who being accused for threatening country's security, so I hope this Ahmad case is not an exceptional.
