KL Attachment Footprints Part 2 - Workplace

This is part 2 of my working attachment footprints in KL for 2 months. If you haven't read part 1, you can click here, or if you don't feel like want to read part 1 you can proceed from here.

This is mainly about flashing my memory about my 2 months office life in KL. For the first 2 week, life was tougher. Without own transportation, we relied on public transport to reach office and back home everyday. The photo below can give you some idea how far we needed to walk to reach Savanna Condo from Bukit Jalil LRT Station and vice versa.

Hang Tuah Station was the most familiar station to us as this is where we changed LRT to monorail or vice versa. Hang Tuah Station is the only station that link monorail with Star LRT.

From Hang Tuah Monorail Station, we travelled 3 more stations to reach Raja Chulan Monorail Station and from there we walked some distance to reach office. Trust me, it was tough life travelling with LRT or monorail especially during peak hours!

After we got our own car which is belongs to my immediate supervisor's brother, life became more relieved. We car pool to work or back home. Although the car was not a big one, but comfortable enough to fit in all of us in a time. However, traffic jam sometimes is as headache as packing sardine inside LRT!

This is where my office is, 24th Floor UOA building, business suite with a balcony.

This is the "obstacle" we needed to come across everytime want to use lift to 24th floor. Only valid RFID card holders will successfully scanned through the system, otherwise very loud "beep" sound will be alerted and attract security guards to visit you!

These are the nice views from office balcony, Petronas Twin Tower which was once the tallest building in the world. If you have telescope, you may able to see some foreign "leng loi" swimming or enjoying sun bath at the hotel opposite. Too bad I didn't have! The construction below produced a lot of noises and distraction. Logo of MAS building which can be seen already gone before we back home. Heard they moved away from the building already?

This is the place I sit. Very fengshui seat because it was at the most corner thus could avoid my monitor being over exposed (If you know what I mean)! ;p

This is the cup that accompanied me in the office for the 2 months. I used it to make myself coffee almost every morning. It belongs to the office. Ops! Sorry for the stain on cup! I took this before I washed the cup.

This is the pantry. Not many thing you can use here except the small kettle to boil water. If you want drinking water, sorry... if you don't mind just use the simple panasonic water filter. I was wondering if that was safe enough to drink yet sometimes you have no choice. This was the place I make coffee every morning.

Some scenery around UOA compoud. Some shops and also restaurants. Top-right is Subway. Bottom-right is a restaurant serving German cuisine. Should be expensive and you could see usually a lot of "Angmo" were there for lunch!

This is our "default" eating place during lunch - Wisma Cosway! An old building yet this is the nearest place serving pork, I mean one of the coffee shop in there serve pork and that's why a lot of Chinese were there for lunch.

I guess this is all about the part 2 of my attachment footprints. Will have part 3 hopefully. Enjoyed a lot in my KL office thanks to the nice colleagues there!

Sarawak State Marching Band Competition 2009

Went to see Sarawak State Marching Band Competition 2009 this morning with my buddy Chun. The competition was held at Sekolah Kebangsaan S.E.D.C Sibu near Grand Height, Jalan Lanang.

[Sekolah Kebangsaan SEDC Sibu - venue for the competition]

I believe not many have heard about this school before even the local. So am I until one of my friend joined the school as a teacher. So, why it was chosen as the venue to the state level competition? From what I heard, the technical personnel had actually survey few places in Sibu, but this is the only place have the flattest ground that qualify for this kind of competition.

[One of the team performing at the time we reached the venue]

There were 8 teams in total taking part in this competition and at the time we reached there at around 10am, it was already the 5th team doing their performance. We were only allowed to take our seats after this team completed their performance because worried our movement might disturb their performance.

[Part of the audience]

We had been waited for about half an hour before the next team slowly marching into the field. If not mistaken, it was Tung Hua Secondary School Sibu Chung Hwa Secondary School Miri. Their uniform were smart and gorgeous especially the hat they were wearing! Personally I like that because it gave me the feel of trojans!

[Marching in leading by drum majors]

From my observation, each team was leaded by 2 drum majors where one of them went onto a small platform at the front to be the conductor and the other one would show his mace throwing and spinning skills! All these performance were counted into the marking.

[Stand steadily for performance]

[The team was performing with their formation and marching]

I just knew that marching band competition is not just all about musical band. There are non-musical group called color guard that provides additional visual effects to the performance. The color guards dancing and playing around with various kind of flags they brought to make the performance more colorful an watchable.

[These are color guards]

[Color guards added visual effects to the performance]

A cameraman from Bahagian Teknologi Pendidikan was there to record the whole event!

[The cameraman from BTP recording the event]

The last team performing was St. Joseph (Kuching) High School Marching Band, a national level award winning team! They marched in steadily with their favorite green color uniform.

[St. Joseph High School team marching in leading by a football-match-referee-look drum major]

The team was very experience and creative. They broke the tradition by wearing their drum major as a football match referee carrying a football in his hand and their color guards were wearing football jersey!

[Trust me! This is not a football match and those wearing yellow-red jersey is not Selangor footabll team!]

The team had a lot of supporters cheering and shouting for them. As expected, their performance was great. Just like what I told you just now, this is a national level competition award winning team!

[St Joseph Kuching making their performance with "football match referee" as conductor]

[Combination of musical band and color guards]

[Color guards showing off their flag spinning skills]

As a whole, it was great to watch but it will be more watchable if the audience have higher place to sit because only by then we can really see the beauty of their formation and arrangement instead of just enjoying the nice music and their marching.

Here is the result I got it from Voteband.net
1st: St. Joseph, Kuching
2nd: Chung Hwa, Miri
3rd: St. Joseph, Miri

Best Percussion: St. Joseph, Miri
Best Color Guard: St. Joseph , Kuching
Best Drum Major: Riam Road Middle School, Miri
Best Preparation:Chung Hwa, Miri

Specially thanks Chun for the ride, otherwise I would miss the chance to see the great show!

5th Payment

Nothing much to share here. Just want to record my 5th payment of Biasiswa Pinjaman Kerajaan Negeri Sarawak on 22/05/2009 (Friday) for the month of May.

KL Attachment Footprints Part 1 - Accomodation

Finally, I am back to the environment that I am very familiar with. Everything is back to normal now including my life, my daily routine, my foods intake and my body clock. My first working attachment in KL are now only left in my memory. Here I want to flash back some of my memory which also indicates my footprints in KL for the past 2 month.

This is the place I stayed for the past 2 months - Savanna Condo, Bukit Jalil just opposite Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

This is the unit I stayed in, A-05-08. Block A 5th floor and unit number 8.

The unit is facing Bukit Jalil Goft Course, a very nice view.

The first two weeks we were there, the place was still a mess. No proper place to sit, no curtain, no kettle to cook water, no washing machine, no light in my wash room... It was a nightmare!

But slowly the furniture and electrical appliances had been added into it. When most of the necessities were there, we started to get use to the place and enjoy our staying.

This is the guard house where we needed to pass by everytime go in or out the condominium compound. Some guards were very friendly by smiling and waving at you, but some just not care.

This is the view to the left from the balcony. Yes! It was Bukit Jalil National Stadium! It was built when Malaysia became the host of Commonwealth Games in year 1998. The fly over beside the condo made a lot of noise when the cars pass by with high speed.

This is the bed inside master room where I used to share with my immediate supervisor (a.k.a Ah Tao). Hope my snoring didn't really disturb his sleep, if I did then I would like to say sorry! ;p

This is the scenery I saw when I opened my bedroom's windows - Arena Green Apartment just in front of my eyes.

This is the corner where I used to put my laptop when inside my room. The DVD player was just for decoration.

This is the laptop that accompanied me for the past 2 months. It's not mine, but I borrowed from my landlord. It was Dell Latitude D410 model with built-in wifi.

This is the place where I did my"business" and took bath every morning.

This is the living room where I used to watch tv and surfing concurrently after back from work.

The shoes rack, clothes drying rack, the old and poor washing machine and the place where I cooked instant noodles. I shouldn't complain much about the old washing machine as it works properly during the 2 months.

The kettles we used to boil water...

and this is how we stored the boiled water - big mineral water's plastic bottles.

This is the swimming pool I used to swim almost everyday after work except weekend. Swimming is the only sport I had in KL. Honestly I am a bad swimmer, but I did learn some breathing skill here.

This is where I enjoyed Jacuzzi, the whirl pool with water jets that produced massaging effect. It was really comfortable especially after tiring work.

That's about my footprints and memories in Savanna Condo, Bukit Jalil. In the coming post I will reveal others. To be continue...

Did I Missed KL Life?

Today is my first working day after came back from KL attachment. Finally I get back to the working environment that I am very familiar with and which I had gone through it for the past 3 years.

Some people asked me, did I miss KL life? Well, it is a hard question to answer. I would say until certain extend, I did miss KL life.

I missed my sisters, brothers-in-law, brother, niece and nephew who welcomed me to stay with them and took extra care of me when I was in KL for the past 2 months. They spent me nice foods and never complain to drive me home or to the destination I wished to go although it was quite troublesome sometimes. They made up every single chance to meet up because they realized that usually we will only meet for one week yearly.

I missed my colleagues in KL, Chamb, Teo, Wee and Fida who treated us like a family. Honestly, I never feel awkward or strange even on the first day I stepped into KL office. Chamb always bring us to the sources of nice foods. Teo provided good tips for networking stuffs and never hesitate to help up when we faced any networking problem. Wee always busy with project management yet he never forget to remind us about traffic jam during off hours and Fida was always cool and quiet, and she always be the last one to have her lunch.

I also missed KL leng loi, foods, Savanna Condo, swimming pool, Bukit Jalil ......

As a whole, the 2 months attachment is a good experience for me which will live forever inside my memory. I will reveal more in my next post.

Trip Back From First Working Attachement

Finally... I ended my first ever working attachment in KL and back to my own place for good! Boarded AirAsia KUL-SBW AK5192 11.00am's flight.

[AirAsia Airbus AK5192]

Pre-ordered in-flight meal when we did the online booking. This was my first time having in-flight meal with AirAsia budget flight. Before this I would just choose to sleep and boycott the meal as I personally felt the price is a bit unreasonable. But this time, since got people "treat" us the meal, I don't mind to have a try. I chose Pak Nasser's Nasi Lemak combo which costs RM8 if book online and RM9 if buy inside the flight.

[The in-flight menu]

Did you notice the word "combo" in the meal set? Why combo then? After I received my meal in the flight, I just realized that "combo" because the meal set includes a small "glass" of Spritzer branded plain water!

[Nasi Lemak Combo set]

What is so special about Nasi Lemak which costs RM8 with the name of Pak Nasser? Err.... honestly, nothing special. Just a small bowl of nasi lemak with sambal, small portion of chicken rendang, half boiled egg, few peanuts and deep fried ikan bilis.

[Nasi Lemak Pak Nasser - the in-flight meal]

Nothing special about its taste as well. Just typical nasi lemak taste - rice cooked in coconut milk eat with sambal, rendang chicken, egg, peanuts and ikan bilis.

[Close view of the Nasi Lemak]

Touched down at Sibu Airport at 12.45 noon. When inside the terminal building, I just realized that Sibu Airport is heavily guarded by medical officers who would point a device onto the forehead of each passangers to check for body temperature. This is to prevent any possibilities passangers may bring in Influenza A (H1N1) virus into the town which had killed quite a number of life in foreign countries like Mexico and USA.

[Written warning in Sibu Airport about Influenza A (H1N1) virus]

[Medical officers prepared to check for body temperature of each passanger]

Still felt a bit tired after back from KL. Will update my blog with more info when I get my energy back! Be patient...
