When Is My Turn to Own a DSLR Camera?

Lunch time just now, I went to Sungei Wang Plaza with my colleague Chamb using "No.11 bus". Not too far away actually, from our office to Sungei Wang, it only needs slightly more than 10 minutes of walking distance.

Initially the main purpose for this lunch trip is to take a walk, see leng loi around and then make some survey on DSLR camera where Chamb planned to buy. However, didn't see much leng loi along the way to Sg wang, but we stopped at one of the camera shop at BB Plaza to have a look at the digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera.

We spent about 45 minutes inside the shop where Chamb were considering on 2 camera models - Canon EOS 1000D or Nikon D60. Both DSLR cameras are similar in term of specification and suitable for entry level of DSLR users.

At the end of the day, Chamb finally made the decision to go for Canon EOS 1000D which cost at RM1.9k! I am not sure which one is better actually, but definitely Canon one is lighter and is made in Japan whereas Nikon one made in Thailand.

Among some of the featured specification of this camera are:
  • 10.1 Mega pixels
  • Up to 3 frames per second
  • 7-point wide-area auto focus (AF)
  • Self-cleaning image sensor
  • 2.5" LCD with Live View mode
  • DIGIC III processor
  • SD/SDHC card slot
  • Picture Styles processing
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Compatible with EF/EF-S lenses and EX Speedlites

I felt lucky because I had the chance to play around with the camera. Honestly, this is my first time touching a digital SLR camera! The feeling was so good. Not like the compact camera, you need to look through the viewfinder instead of the LCD screen to shot the picture. Then you need to operate and adjust the lens manually to focus or zoom in and out That make you look like a professional photographer.

There is no doubt about the quality of the photo taken using the digital SLR camera. Clear and sharp! Look at the photo below. It was the first photo I took using the Canon EOS 1000D DSLR camera!

Now I am wondering... when is my turn to own a DSLR camera? Perhaps wait till I win lottery? ;p

First Photo

This is the first photo I took using my newly bought Canon IXUS 860IS. I snapped the shop where I bought this camera. See the quality good or not?
I make a simple comparison. The photo below I took using the digicam.
This one I took using my Sony Ericsson handphone.
Can you see the different? The one taken with the digital camera is much sharper, clearer and the color is more real, isn't it?

Please say yes la... please... I spent quite a lot on this leh... let me feel worth it for spending the money.. please!

;p

A New Camera

I have dream this for quite a long time. A digital camera for myself! All these while I kept thinking and considering what brand and model should I purchase. After some researches on the Internet and my own observation, finally I make up my mind to get a Canon IXUS 860IS.

For me, it is kind of expensive. It costs me RM999 plus a screen protector, just a thin layer of plastic that stick of the 3" LCD screen costs RM8 but after bargain RM6. However I like some of its features such as the large 3 inches LCD screen and 28mm wide lens which allows you to cover wider area when taking photo. Here I some of the key features:
  • 8.0 Megapixel.
  • Canon 3.8x optical zoom lens with Optical Image Stabilizer.
  • 28mm wide lens.
  • Huge 3.0 inch PureColor LCD screen.
  • Super fast DiG!C III Imaging Processor with ISO 1600.
  • Face Detect technology with Auto Focus, Auto Exposure and Red-eye correction.
Come along with the camera in the box:
  • Canon battery pack NB-5L 1.27V 1120mAh (Li-ion)
  • Battery charger CB-2LXE
  • 32MB SD memory card
  • Interface Cable IFC-400PCU to connect the camera to computer USB port
  • AV Cable AVC-DC300
  • Wrist Strap WS-DC2
  • Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk
  • User Guides
  • Warranty Card (1 year warranty)
Apart from these standard items come with the camera, Canon also given away some gifts upon purchasing, such as a Canon digital camera case and Canon Ximplify software (I still don't know what the software for).
As promotion, the shop itself also given away a 2GB Toshiba SD card and RM100 coupon for photo printing.
One thing I am not satisfy with the discount coupon is this term and condition:

"Satu kupon sahaja boleh digunakan untuk pencucian harga gambar lebih daripada RM25.00"

The sentence is a bit confusing, but I think I know what it means. Initially I thought I can print the photo for free worth RM100! Cheh!! Actually, I can only use one coupon of RM5 discount for every RM25 I spent in photo printing at the shop.

Here is the warranty cert and bill issued to me. I hope it's worth it.
Now I owned a digital camera. So I hope that I can have more quality photos for all of you!
